Refugees camp in Amsterdam Osdorp

November 2012 I visited the refugeescamp in Amsterdam Osdorp. I was surprised about the situation in which these people live. Living in tents in the cold Dutch autumn isn’t a pleasant experience.

So the fact that they choose to live here instead of some shelter is a brave choice. Making a statement to the government can rise attention for their situation, but also for dutch immigration rules who tend to be not clear and sufficient to help these people.  Too less attention is given to the problems that our immigration system causes. The rules should be clear for people who ask for asylum, because it determines peoples lifes in the most essential way. It is difficult to have to leave your country and the family where you belong. Now they don’t belong anywhere because they are nowhere welcome. They created a group to which they belong now!

Let us welcome them here. These people have so much to contribute to our society. They helped me when I had cramps in my stomach.  I want them to stay!
